PADANG -- Organisasi Kesepakatan Mahasiswa Minangkabau (KMM) Mesir
membantah keterlibatan mereka dalam konflik yang terjadi di negara itu
sebagaimana diberitakan salah satu koran harian di Padang.
''Menanggapi berita yang menjadi headline salah satu koran harian di Padang yang berjudul
"Mahasiswa Minang Terseret Konflik Mesir",
KMM menyatakan tidak ada satu orang pun mahasiswa minang yang terlibat
dalam konflik di Mesir,'' kata Ketua KMM Mesir, Jasri Waldi, dalam
keterangan resmi di Padang, Selasa.
Menurut dia, tidak benar mahasiswa Minang terlibat termasuk memberikan pengobatan kepada demonstran pendukung Muhammad Mursi.
''Kami menyadari sepenuhnya bahwa hal tersebut berdampak bahaya bukan
hanya bagi mahasiswa minang, tapi juga bagi seluruh mahasiswa Indonesia
di Mesir,'' kata dia.
Jasri membenarkan saat ini sedang terjadi konflik antara pendukung
presiden terpilih, Muhammad Mursi, dengan kelompok oposisi yang dibantu
oleh militer sehingga menelan banyak korban di pihak demonstran
pendukung Mursi.
Namun, rata-rata mahasiswa tinggal tidak begitu dekat dengan
lokasi-lokasi demonstrasi. Mahasiswa juga selalu menmatuhi peringatan
dari KBRI untuk tidak mendekati area-area tersebut.
Jasri juga meralat data yang disampaikan Kepala Biro Administrasi
Pembangunan dan Kerjasama Rantau Setdaprov Sumbar, Muhammad Yani, bahwa
saat ini jumlah mahasiswa minang yang ada di Mesir mencapai 1.500 orang
Ia menyebutkan jumlah mahasiswa Minang di Mesir saat ini 396 orang.
Jumlah tersebut sudah termasuk dari semua strata pendidikan S1, S2 dan
S3.
