FUKUSHIMA -- Pengamat nuklir Jepang mengatakan, kebocoran di pembangkit
listrik tenaga nuklir sudah masuk ke tahap darurat karena kenaikan
radioaktif di air bawah tanah.
Otoritas Pengaturan Nuklir
memperingatkan air sudah melampui penghalang yang dibangun. Artinya, air
yang terkontaminasi merembes ke Samudera Pasifik bisa lebih cepat.
Ada
serentetan kebocoran air dan gangguan listrik di pembangkit yang hancur
karena gempa bumi dan tsunami pada 2011. Operatornya, Tokyo Electric
Power Company (Tepco), dikritik berat karena kurangnya transparansi atas
kebocoran tersebut.
Tepco mengakui untuk pertama kalinya bulan
lalu, air telah melampui penghalang dan bocor ke laut. Namun, mereka
mengatakan telah mengambil langkah untuk mencegahnya.
Kepala
satuan tugas Otoritas Pengaturan Nuklir, Shinji Kinjo mengatakan
penanggulangan hanya solusi sementara. "Peringatan krisis Tepco lemah.
Inilah sebabnya mengapa tidak bisa hanya menyerahkannya kepada Tepco.
Saat ini, kita memiliki kondisi darurat," ujarnya dilansir
BBC.
Jika
penghalang bawah tanah sudah dilewati air, pengawas memperingatkan, air
bisa mulai merembes melalui daerah dangkal. Kinjo mengatakan setelah
mencapai permukaan, air bisa mengalir sangat cepat. Air yang tercemar
diperkirakan bisa naik ke permukaan tanah dalam waktu tiga pekan.
Air
yang terkontaminasi diduga berasal dari 400 ton air tanah yang dipompa
ke pembangkit setiap hari untuk mendinginkan reaktor. Tepco mengakui air
sekitar 20-40 triliun becquerel radioaktif tritium bocor ke laut sejak
bencana terjadi.
